Pump.fun and Dozens of Solana Meme-Coin Accounts Banned on X During Enforcement Sweep

Several Solana meme-coin communities, including the prominent launchpad Pump.fun, saw their X (formerly Twitter) accounts suspended late on June 16. The crackdown affected not only Pump.fun's official account and its founder Alon Cohen’s personal handle but also numerous other memecoin-linked profiles like GMGN, BloomTrading, and several bot and connector accounts.

Pump.fun and Dozens of Solana Meme-Coin Accounts Banned on X During Enforcement Sweep

The sudden suspensions began around 19:30 UTC, with users receiving “user not found” errors. Community members and analysts have characterized the action as a platform-generated “enforcement sweep” rather than organized mass reporting. These accounts typically offered trading tools, automated exchanges, and marketing services—all features that may have violated X’s policies on spam or market manipulation.

Interestingly, within just one hour of the suspensions, over $10 million in trading volume flowed into newly created meme-coins themed around the bans. Five of those coins entered the top 10 trending tokens, and 15 of the 31 memecoins released on Pump.fun during that period revolved around the incident.

The motives behind X’s sudden sweep remain undisclosed; no official statement has clarified whether it was triggered by a violation of API usage, compliance infractions, or regulatory concerns. The timing—just before Pump.fun’s anticipated $PUMP token launch—suggests possible attempts to curb hype-driven airdrops or pre-launch campaigns.

What This Means for Users & Projects

  • Market Disruption Risk: Account suspensions can derail token launches and marketing events, impacting liquidity and user trust.
  • Regulatory Scrutiny Intensifies: Platforms promoting trading tools without oversight may face escalating compliance actions from social media networks and regulators.
  • Community Resilience: Despite the bans, meme-coin traders swiftly pivoted, creating new tokens tied to the event—underlining both meme culture’s agility and speculative tendencies.
